Steps to Self-Determination: A Curriculum to Help Adolescents Learn to Achieve Their Goals

Designed to be delivered as a course or workshop, this teacher-directed self-determination curriculum is designed to help secondary students learn to define and achieve goals that are important to them. The complete program is made up of three components: Instructor's Guide with introductory materials, session outlines, detailed lesson plans, and transparency and handout masters for 16 sessions. Student Activity Book with all of the student worksheets in an individually bound format. The Self-Determination Knowledge Scale, Forms A and B: a pretest and posttest for the curriculum. Field-test results indicated that participation in the curriculum had a significant positive effect on students' knowledge of self-determination concepts and on behaviors associated with self-determination. 1996, 244 pages.
The Arc's Self-Determination Scale: Procedural Guidelines and 25 Protocols

This assessment device is an easy-to-administer student self-report measure of self-determination designed for use by adolescents with mild mental retardation or learning disabilities. Its purpose is to help students identify their strengths and limitations in self-determination skills.
