Project Success II

A project funded by the Alaska Native Education Program, U. S. Department of Education (CFDA 84.356A)

Do you work or plan to work in…

  • programs that include children with special needs?
  • Infant Learning Programs (ILP)?
  • Head Start / Early Head Start programs?
  • other school district programs?

How Can Project Success II Help?

Project Success II is a scholarship program for students earning one of the following distance delivered Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) Degrees available from anywhere in the state of Alaska:

  • Early Childhood Education (from College of Rural Alaska or University of Alaska Southeast)
  • Disability Services (from Prince William Sound Community College) with an emphasis in either Educational Support or Speech-language Support

Who Can Apply for a Scholarship?

Project Success II has a priority to serve Alaska Native applicants. Non-Native applicants working with Alaska Native children will be considered on a semester-to-semester basis, pending funds remaining after all eligible Alaska Native applicants have received scholarships.

How much Does the Scholarship Pay?

In brief, the Project Success II scholarship covers 50% of total semester tuition. It covers distance fees and study group teleconference costs for the Center’s disability and special needs courses, as well as some other student services.

Students earning the A.A.S. in Early Childhood Education and receiving Project Success II scholarship support are required to take the project’s five courses in early childhood special needs topics. These can be used to meet the requirement for 15 credits of electives in the ECE degree program. The A.A.S. in Early Childhood Education and the special needs courses are particularly useful for employment in Head Start and Infant Learning Programs, as well as for classroom aides in school district programs serving children ages 3-8.

The A.A.S. Degree in Disability Services with an Emphasis in Educational Support is ideal for classroom aides in programs serving children in grades K-12, particularly school district special education programs. The Degree with an Emphasis in Speech-language Support is ideal for Speech-language aides in school district programs serving children in grades K-12. See Learn As You Earn for information about currently offered disability coursework.
