CAPRA’s Benefits
CAPRA’s primary goal is to increase successful course completion by students with disabilities attending the University of Alaska’s extended campuses. Many of these students experience physical or mental disabilities and require accommodations to have the same access to curricula and services as their non-disabled classmates. Through CAPRA training and support from DSS personnel, the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of faculty will grow as they learn course design, delivery, and instructional strategies to improve access for students with documented disabilities. While the project’s focus is on increasing accessibility of courses, programs and services for students with disabilities, they are not the only students who will benefit. Any student having difficulty reading, writing, or comprehending course content delivered via traditional modes will benefit from the multi-modal presentations, flexible means of engaging in course activities, and various forms of demonstrating knowledge, skills, and mastery for evaluation.
